We feel strongly that investing in our society should reflect a long-term commitment to Canadian ideals and institutions. In addition to our own established foundation, we also sponsor a number of community groups and organizations that share our dedication to youth, community wealth and opportunity.
Stand Up for Kids is an annual fundraising event presented by David Goodman and DundeeWealth. On Oct. 26, 2010 two of the world's top surrealist comics, Steven Wright and Demetri Martin, headlined a star-studded evening of live comedy at Toronto's TELUS Centre for Performance and Learning. The event raised $200,000 in net proceeds which were donated in equal amounts to Dixon Hall's Summer Camp, Eva's Initiatives, and Trails Youth Initiatives.
The DundeeWealth scholarship provides financial support and hands-on industry experience to at-risk youth who are in the care of the Children's Aid Society and are enrolled in an accredited post-secondary education program. We have already awarded 20 scholarships and continue to search for talented youth each year.
In addition to financial support, the DundeeWealth scholarship offers summer internships to recipients of the award.
In 2007 DundeeWealth received special recognition from the Children's Aid Society as this was the first sponsorship of its kind in its history. Since 2008, DundeeWealth has offered 12 summer internships, and in 2008 hired one of the recipients as a full-time employee.
Since 2010, DundeeWealth has been the lead sponsor of the Hot Docs youth and education program, Docs for Schools. This program aligns with DundeeWealth's goal to provide youth with access to arts and alternative learning opportunities.
Docs for Schools gives students across Ontario access to free in-classroom and in-theatre documentary screenings, and provides high quality educational resources to accompany each documentary. Since its launch in 2006, over 100,000 students from 500 Ontario high schools have been able to take advantage of Docs for Schools. Offered for free to high schools, these documentaries engage students with vital ideas, critical questions and new perspectives outside of the mainstream media and school textbooks.
