Meet Our Team


Fred Hurdman, CFP®, CLU, C.H.F.C., CIM is a Director, Private Client Group, a Portfolio Manager and a Senior Investment Advisor who has the resources, skills and strategies necessary to help people achieve their goals and objectives. Fred has earned numerous designations, including Certified Financial Planner (CFP®), Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), Chartered Financial Consultant (CH.F.C.) and Canadian Investment Manager (CIM). He is an avid reader and has a strong belief in and passion for education.

There are a few qualities and characteristics, we have learned, that are important for us to look for when we are building a portfolio. First, from an investment perspective, size does matter. It is important to have enough size to achieve economies of scale and yet at the same time be small enough to be much more nimble. We are then able to make changes as appropriate much more effectively and efficiently. It is for this reason that we will purposely limit the number of clients that we will work with and the amount of assets that we will manage.

Second, the characteristics of anyone with whom we partner are critical. As we studied the Yale University Endowment fund, we were able to crystallize the characteristics that we look for in anyone that we partner with. Above all else, we look for a great depth of integrity and it is also important for any partner to have the ability to follow a very strict discipline. Most people follow the emotions of fear and greed and that is where herd mentality or the lemming affect comes from. Next is a passion for doing what it is that they do. It must not be just for the monetary rewards. Our partners should be doing what they love to do and that is why they excel at it. We also look for alignment of interests. Any partner must ensure that both our clients, and we as clients, win before they do. Lastly, we always prefer partners that are motivated and have something to prove. We believe that if we follow these guidelines in selecting our partners, then we have the greatest probability to protect and grow your assets and to help you achieve all that is important to you.

Fred has worked in the financial industry since 1979, helping his clients plan for and achieve financial health. He has also worked to educate people about financial planning strategies, taught financial planning seminars sponsored by the Calgary Board of Education and presented various other seminars for the benefit of clients and the general public. He also sponsored and presented the Your Financial Coach radio program.

Fred's desire to help his clients achieve personal success is apparent in his ability to listen to and to understand individual goals and objectives. This is underscored by Fred's principled practices; he sets goals and seeks excellence in every aspect of life. Fred is professional, organized, extremely thorough and keeps well informed of the latest developments in the financial industry.
